Welcome (back) to Armchair Traveler!
Hi, hello & welcome (back) to Armchair Traveler!
You may have noticed that I’ve been quiet here these last few months. I’ve been busy: building a library of design-forward travel guides, reviews, itineraries and more over at Armchair-Traveler.com and reimagining how I want to show up here on Substack.
When I started writing this newsletter last year, I used it as a platform to share my best travel recs for fellow design-obsessed travelers. But after a few months of publishing recs on recs on recs, I realized that I didn’t just want to write about the best meals in Paris or the best shops in London.
Instead, I wanted a space to share my favorite design discoveries (like Uzbek tapchans, Peruvian églomisé, and Peranakan tiles), cultural commentary (yes, street fashion counts as culture), and personal stories (like the time I brought a Parisian chandelier home in my carry-on).
Moving forward, I’ll treat Armchair Traveler here on Substack as part design dispatch, part travelogue. Every week, subscribers can expect a mix of:
Design diaries from places that inspire me (first up: Silk Road monuments in Uzbekistan, flea markets in Buenos Aires, and gilded salons in Paris)
Deep dives into objects and aesthetics worth obsessing over (think richly-embroidered suzanis, splashy botanical wallpapers, dreamy canopy beds, and more)
Behind-the-scenes snapshots from my latest travels (most recently, a 2-week jaunt across South America, a mother-daughter weekend in Paris, and a 70-mile trek along the Tour du Mont Blanc)
Destination-specific recommendations - city guides, itineraries, hotel reviews, and more - will continue to live on Armchair-Traveler.com.
I’m glad you’re joining along for the journey.
Cheers,
Sarah
